Waterbender

The Water Tribe is run by a Confederate Chiefdom and each tribe has a Tribal Chief. Currently the Water Tribe consists of three different tribes, the biggest being the Northern Water tribe at the North Pole, The Southern Water Tribe's ancestors were part of the Northern Tribe at one time but moved to the South Pole when there was a time of civil unrest. The Foggy Swamp Tribe resides in the Southwestern part of the Earth Kingdom and supposedly came from former Southern Water Tribe members.

Waterbending is the element of change, and Waterbenders draw there power from the moon. They use there opponents forces against them and let there defense become there offense. The style is more flowing and graceful, though the benders of the Foggy Swamp Tribe have a more rigid and straight kind of bending.

Waterbending provides a versatility of experience. Waterbending's strength is there defensive capabilities which, rather than supporting a separate set of offensive methods, are transformed into attacks and counters from defense into offense. Rather than simply stopping to deflect an attack, Waterbending's defensive maneuvers focus on control, achieved through turning an opponent's own strength against him rather than hurting him directly.

Waterbending emphasizes symbiosis. They act in concert with there environment and guide it, rather than avoiding, controlling, or working against it. In the Foggy Swamp Tribe the Waterbenders were shown to be specially attuned to the environment

It is also said the first Waterbenders learned to bend the water by watching how the moon pushed and pulled the waves and mimicked the moon's actions.

This is the only element which wasn't learned from watching an animal.

On top of water one can also bend it's different forms. They can also take the water from the air, along with bending the ice and snow, and they can bend mud along with Earthbenders. A few of the benders are also able to use there abilities to heal. Master Waterbenders can bend water in plants and control them or drain the water of an object. However, taking the water from another object is often used as a last resort for it does not generate that much water. Due to this fact many Waterbenders carry water with them or just stay close to a large body of water.

Master Waterbenders can also control another being by bending their blood due to the fact that the human body is made of 70% water. This type of Waterbending is called Bloodbending and it is the sub-skill of Waterbending. It can only be done when there is a full moon.

Some of the weaknesses is not having a major source of water due to the fact that a Waterbender is at an advantage when they have a larger source of water. Binding a Waterbender's arms will ultimately leave them unable to bend, along with a Lunar Eclipse.

Some Waterbenders in the Avatar The Last Airbender series are Katara, Hama, Yugoda, Huu, Avatar Kuruk, and Pakku.
